Interpretation[]
The suit is about Ray, a raccoon who studied under a master with four other disciples. She loves to drink tea and enjoys her training even though the master sets strict rules for them. Ray, like many other raccoons, heard the words of the legendary Divine Li and wondered about the world outside, especially about humans and human romance. As noted in the story of Wine Wanderer, Divine Li (Little Fairy Cat) is a shapeshifting raccoon who wrote a book about her experiences traveling the world.
So Ray decided to travel and visit the south, where she sees everything is just like the book she read. She went to a tavern and saw Divine Li waving at her, taking the shape of a common girl. Ray was excited to see her, and Divine Li told her that even if she liked the story she'd written, it was best to create her own story. From that point, Ray continued to travel the world, in control of her own fate and her own story.
In Bamboo Recluse, Ray is called "Civet Five" — Civet being a type of mammal similar to a raccoon, and Five referring to her position as the fifth disciple under her former master.
