Overview[]

Gameplay[]

The first three games in the series featured a 2D dress-up system, with the Hello Nikki and Love Nikki games often incorporating different poses for Nikki's model. The fourth and fifth game included a 3D model instead. All five games have included attributes for the items to be used in styling battles, although Shining Nikki and Infinity Nikki display more detailed attribute breakdowns than previous entries, allowing items to be directly compared in-game and showing a projected score.

Gacha elements are present in Love Nikki, with several permanent gachas (Mystery House) available for both gold and diamonds. Most events have a fixed price without random elements; however, pavilion events and certain hell events do contain gacha. Hello Nikki also has permanent gachas for gold and diamonds. Gacha plays a larger role in the acquisition of clothing in Shining Nikki and Infinity Nikki.

Crafting clothing takes a major role in all games except the first, with recipes/blueprints/sketches that can be used once the player has gathered the requisite material.

The first four games' main stories (Journey) consist of stages, with almost every stage concluding in a styling battle. Passing the styling battle is required to continue with the story. Hello Nikki, Love Nikki, and Shining Nikki display the stages on a world map with a stamina system. Infinity Nikki has a quest system for its main story, and styling battles are less common than in previous entries.

Story[]

The main characters of the series, which have appeared in each entry, are Nikki (Shining Nikki sparkle icon 4, Infinity Nikki star icon 5) and her cat Momo (Shining Nikki sparkle icon 4, Infinity Nikki star icon 5). Though the first two games centered on their dress-up adventures on Earth, starting in Love Nikki, the setting transitioned to Miraland, a fantasy world where society revolves around fashion. Nikki is not native to Miraland, and both Love Nikki and Infinity Nikki resemble the isekai genre.

Miraland in Love Nikki and Shining Nikki contains seven nations: Lilith Kingdom (Shining Nikki sparkle icon Ninir), Apple Federal, Cloud Empire, Pigeon Kingdom, North Kingdom, Republic of Wasteland, and Ruin Island. Love Nikki takes place in the year 680 of the New Era, though worldbuilding leading to ancient times is present, and Shining Nikki takes place at the beginning of the New Era, 680 years prior. Shining Nikki is a direct sequel from an implied end of Love Nikki, although the story of the latter is not complete. Despite the similarities between the two games, the details of the timeline do not match.

The nations of Infinity Nikki have different names, but may align with nations in Love Nikki and Shining Nikki's Miraland; for example, Infinity Nikki star icon Heartcraft Kingdom contains Cicia and Wintermount, indicating that it is likely in the same location as Lilith and Ninir. Infinity Nikki may not fall on the timeline of Miraland established by previous games and may occur in its own timeline.

Easter Eggs and Collaborations[]

There are a number of easter eggs and shared content between each game.

Story[]

  • Despite the different settings, Giftys are prominent in both Hello Nikki and Love Nikki.
  • Hello Nikki's "Wonderful Ambassador" (梦幻大使) also makes a cameo in Love Nikki as the Fantasy Envoy.
  • The December Troupe appears in both Hello Nikki and Love Nikki.
  • Pigeon Kingdom was mentioned in Hello Nikki. The hair no. 310, Little Elf, mentioned that elves came from a distant country called Pigeon.
  • A number of characters in Shining Nikki are implied to be related to characters from Love Nikki in some way:
  • Shining Nikki sparkle icon Leonid was featured at the end of Hello Nikki and foreshadowed Nikki's journey to Miraland. An unofficial translation by RavenBlue can be read here.
  • Kimi made a cameo appearance during Shining Nikki's 2024 birthday event, attending the Cicia Theater with Nikki. This may be a reference to Kimi's very first appearance in Love Nikki in V1: 2-8 Rehearsal at Theater!.
