Blade of Thorns[]
Character: Ming Shuiyuan
Hot Festivity[]
Expand for script.
- (Northern Cloud, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.)
- (In the festival, lanterns are hung at the gate of every house. Though the night is late, the sound of fireworks and drums can be heard from time to time.)
- (Ming’s old house, once noisy and full of people, shows no festivity today. A black carriage appears secretly and stops at the back gate.)
- Old Servant: Master, you are back.
- Ming Shuiyuan: Any news?
- Old Servant: I haven’t received any news today. Mr. Zuo is waiting inside. Please come in and have some warm tea, Master.
- (The hold house looks a bit shabby after a short preparation. A half-open orchid on the table is the only decoration in the room.)
- Zuo Yuxuan: Master Ming! You are finally back!
- (Zuo Yuxuan was just dismissed from the position of Special Supervisor for multiple crimes, including trespassing and assaulting. Wearing pleb clothes, he looks worried.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: What happened when I was away?
- Zuo Yuxuan: Since the founding of the trade zone, several cases of missing people happened in the north and they are still unsolved. Several days before, our ships in Clan Zhan all lost connection.
- Zuo Yuxuan: Clan Zhan led the establishment of Trade Zone. They are surely related to those missing people. But all the leads are gone, I can only come to seek your help, Master Ming.
- Ming Shuiyuan: Clan Zhan is laying his hands on the normal people? Things are getting worse than what I was told before.
- Counsellor: Clan Zhan is obviously trying to establish a foothold in the north Cloud. They have no reason to cause trouble here. What's Master Zhan planning to do?
- Zuo Yuxuan: No matter what's his plan. The north Cloud cannot be ruined. This fiefdom was granted by the first emperor to Clan Ming. You must protect it!
- Counsellor: Master Ming has already come here. She must have a plan.
- Ming Shuiyuan: The scout's information suggests that there will be some big move in Clan Zhan's palace tonight and I already have people keep an eye on it. Hopefully, we will find some clues.
- (A nightwatchman rings the tong of 9:30 pm. A navy contraption bird comes back with a new message.)
- Zuo Yuxuan: What is it?
- Ming Shuiyuan: The Shadow Guards of Clan Zhan were found moving in Mountains Skyhigh before scouts lost their traces. Judging from the direction, they might be heading to Mount Seven Stars.
- Ming Shuiyuan: Shadow Guards, let's go.
Letters from Cloud[]
Expand for script.
- (It's late in the night and the Mount Seven Stars is steep, but with the help of contraptions, they moved quite quickly.)
- Spy: Master Ming, this is where we last saw them.
- Ming Shuiyuan: Have you searched the surroundings?
- Spy: It's a dead end ahead. We only found a spot of blood by the cliff. By the depth of the snow, it was left some hours ago.
- Ming Shuiyuan: Let's go to check it out.
- (The blood trace was not conspicuous and it was deliberately covered. However, there is no trace of fighting around.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: Have we lost scouts?
- Spy: We have checked, no.
- Counsellor: Weird. It's festival today, and now that we didn't have any clash with Clan Zhan, who else would?
- (The traces of blood continues. Ming Shuiyuan follows the trace and finds a hidden path upwards.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: Team A, B, E, follow me. The others search around and report immediately if you find anything else.
- (Following the trace, they ascended the top of Mount Seven Stars. This is the very boundary of Cloud and North. A full moon hangs in the sky, shining upon the two nations alike.)
- (Ming Shuiyuan takes the Vision Extender from her waist and inspects the other side the mountain. At the mountain foot, she finds some tracks.)
- Counsellor: Clan Zhan is really smuggling goods by this route, but we didn't find any cave or base along the road. Further investigation should be arranged.
- Ming Shuiyuan: No, Mount Seven Stars is too steep and rocky to set up a plant or base. Clan Zhan's base... is probably in the North.
- Zuo Yuxuan: But the previous information indicates that Clan Zhan was smuggling some north Cloud crops through trade zone, but the crops have to be processed soon after picking...
- Ming Shuiyuan: If it's only smuggling of some crops, why these are people missing? I think the smuggling of crops could very well be a cover of their true business.
- Counsellor: But smuggling is already a felony! Why do they use this as a cover?
- Zuo Yuxuan: We'll find it out soon.
- Counsellor: No! Crossing the nation border with armed soldiers is nothing lesser than smuggling. We cannot act so rashly.
- Zuo Yuxuan: If we can expose the conspiracy of Clan Zhan, Cloud Empress will surely understand, and Master Ming will take back the north Cloud again.
- Counsellor: But if things go otherwise? This is the business of the two countries. Even the fame and feat of the Clan won't help here. This is too risky.
- (As they speak, another bluebird returns under the cover of night. Ming Shuiyuan takes down the message on it.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: A mutiny occurred in the North, General Vedrfol has led a large army to Black Water City. In this case, the guard of League Tyr base must be very weak.
- Counsellor: This might not be a coincidence. It must be a part of Master Zhan's plan.
- Zuo Yuxuan: How can Master of Clan Zhan launch a mutiny in the North Kingdom? I'd say it's perfect timing to find out the truth.
- (Holding the message in her hand, Ming Shuiyuan stands in the high wind. The clicking sound of the contraption bird sounds like a timer that urges her to make a decision.)

- (Two days ago, the Ferry of Lor River.)
- (On a small boat moored on the bank, Ming Shuiyuan looks out at the flowing water and takes out a xiao to play.)
- (The messages from old subordinates about missing people and smuggling keep coming. North Cloud is her homeland. Ming Shuiyuan cannot ignore it.)
- (As a tune finishes, the boatman reports that someone has come. The man who lifts the curtain is dressed in normal clothing, but the dignity just cannot be hidden.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: You've come.
- Bai Yongxi: I heard your flute. It's said that you are running the south quite well. What brings you to Lor River?
- Ming Shuiyuan: The same thing that brought King Xi here.
- Bai Yongxi: So you also heard about the rumors in north Cloud. This is quite tricky, but Clan Ming had better not get involved.
- (Ming Shuiyuan looks into the mountains afar, showing no special expression.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: King Xi went to conduct a secret investigation into Clan Zhan. Now that I have heard about it, Master Zhan must have been prepared. Let me guess, King Xi found nothing also, right?
- (Bai Yongxi nodded slightly and frowned.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: I still have some eyes in the north. If someone can find it out, that would be me.
- Bai Yongxi: I know, but after the mutiny of 13 cities in the south, the rumors of Clan Ming's betrayal are running wild. If the news of your return to north spreads out, it equals to admitting it.
- Ming Shuiyuan: I already knew it when I marched toward the south. Zhu Ruosheng told me that both Military and Civil Departments kept making excuses, so the court did not send troops.
- Ming Shuiyuan: But the people of thirteen people [sic] were homeless or dead in the war. I could not stand by and watch them suffer. Moreover, I had a promise with an old friend in the south...
- Ming Shuiyuan: So is the north. I cannot stand by while my old subordinates need my help.
- Bai Yongxi: You'd better find out the problem because if you don't, those people coveting the position of Clan Ming will not let you go easily.
- Ming Shuiyuan: Fame and wealth, life and death are all impermanent and only heaven knows. It would be just fine if King Xi goes by book.
- Bai Yongxi: It seems Master Ming has made up your mind. But remember that the hardest thing is also the easiest to break. Take care.
- (Bai Yongxi lifts the curtain and leaves. A while later, the boatman rows the boat slowly into afar.)
- (The boat is like a leaf on the river. Where will fate takes Cloud and Clan Ming?) [sic]
- Ming Shuiyuan: (But I've made the choice and I cannot regret now.)
- (Taking out a charcoal stick, Ming Shuiyuan writes down the order for further investigation and puts the note in the contraption bird.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: Go to the North and investigate.
- People: Yes!
- Ming Shuiyuan: All put on covert clothes. Be careful.

- (As her subordinates in black attires dispersed, Ming Shuiyuan drove the machine Xuan Wu across the border into the pitch-dark forest.)
- (It's all silent around, and under the faint moonlight, the forest felt a little spooky.)
- Shadow Guard: Master, there is a strange structure ahead.
- Ming Shuiyuan: Sneak in quietly. Do not cause any trouble and retreat once we got the evidence.
- (In front of the slightly dilapidated side door, Ming Shuiyuan inserted the Grafting Needle into the keyhole, adjusting its position based on the small vibration passed along.)
- (After a while, the lock let out a sound and was unlocked.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: Move.
- (Through the door and across the narrow corridor, they came to a low warehouse. The rows of shelves are loaded of Cloud style boxes.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: Team A, keep watching outside, Team B and E search the place.
- Search for item list.
- Shadow Guard: Master, I found a list here.
- Ming Shuiyuan: The warehouse is trading frequently. Compare it with Family Zhan's submitted levy document and the problem will show itself.
- Ming Shuiyuan: And what's on earth is this 'Cargo 1' on the list?
Search for prohibited goods.
- Shadow Guard: Master, the bottle of wine looks very strange.
- (Ming Shuiyuan put the bottle to her nose and there was no smell of bouquet. Instead, the golden liquid sent off a smell of rust.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: These 'wines' are definitely not on the trade list. We have to find Clan Zhan's list as the evidence.
- Minion: Master, the fish has bitten at the bait.
- (Zhan Qiuming remained his poise as if he had foreseen this long ago.)
- Minion: This is really a great move, Master. Have them captured by the hands of the North, then with a bit of pressure on the court, the north Cloud will soon bend to you.
- North Soldier: Mr. Zhan, everything goes just like planned. We have had Ming Shuiyuan and her men and General wants them gone.
- (The soldiers in the temporary ally were waiting for the order. Zhan Qiuming rubbed the half jade in his hand, on which the promise of half the kingdom got his parents killed.)
- (For many nights, he still dreamt of his parents fighting on the battlefield gallantly with deep admiration.)
- (He hated this country. He hated those who blindly pledged their allegiance to the system, but often he saw his parents in these people and things.)
- North Soldier: Mr. Zhan, if you have no objection, then we'll...
- Zhan Qiuming: Wait. I've just thought of a better plan.
- (The sentiments that Zhan found hard to handle were sealed, together with all of his memory, by that arcane arts. And now he wishfully believed that they should be discarded.)
- Zhan Qiuming: Taking down the Ming family is unwise. It's a better plan if they could join forces with us.
- Minion: Master Ming is quite stubborn and inflexible. Colonel said it would be hard to make them compromise.
- Zhan Qiuming: However, there are always exceptions. It's a different time now and some things are not up to her anymore. Get dressed in a fine suit and let's meet Master Ming.
The Cold Night[]

- (Black muzzles pointed upward at them and Ming Shuiyuan was planning the route to retreat.)
- North Soldier: You've been found, don't resist.
- (A soldier fired a shot to warn them and at the very moment, Ming Shuiyuan threw down a Knockout Smoke. As thick smoke rose, all the Shadow Guards started moving like phantoms.)
- (However, when they stepped out of the door, they were hailed by even more soldiers.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: To the southeast! It's the weakest.
- (Both parties showed no mercy. However, with War Machine Xuan Wu still on the way, the contraption troops were outmatched by the North Soldiers with weapons.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: (If I really can't leave, I'm afraid I must...)
- (At that juncture, someone shouted from the forest.)
- Soldier: Special Agent is here to investigate. Everyone, stop fighting!
- (A great number of soldiers in Cloud style suits showed up, and in the very front was Zhan Qiuming in fine clothes holding the token of Special Agent.)
- Zhan Qiuming: Drop all your weapons. Soldiers, search this place thoroughly.
- Zhan Qiuming: Master Ming? Why are you here? Are you here to investigate the smuggling too?
- Ming Shuiyuan: I'm afraid why am I here has nothing to do with Master Zhan.
- Zhan Qiuming: Thirteen cities in the south and then this... What has the Emperor promised you? The you could be so devoted.
- Zhan Qiuming: Pity, pity. A bow will be put away once the hunting is finished. Master Ming, I only hope your efforts are not in vain eventually.
- Ming Shuiyuan: I do not understand what you are talking about.
- Zhan Qiuming: If Master Ming is determined to be a piece on this game board, soon you will see the cruelty of the player. And if you regret at that time, remember to come to me.
- (Zhan Qiuming flashed her a smile then turned back halfway, speaking with a loud voice that everyone could hear.)
- Zhan Qiuming: I've been investigating for many days and waiting for a chance to strike. But Master Ming's rash action must have scared every criminal away. How will I explain to the emperor...
- Ming Shuiyuan: ... You!
- (Zhan Qiuming turned and left. The Dark Guards behind Ming Shuiyuan looked around blankly, waiting for the next order of the master.)
- (The moonlight fell on Ming Shuiyuan's shoulder. It's the holiday today, and fireworks could be heard from afar. But here she was, accompanied by several wounded Shadow Guards.)
- (She suddenly remembered what Bai Yongxi once said, the hardest thing is also most easy to break. Did I do the wrong thing? Would I choose to play safe if given a second chance...)
- (Ming Shuiyuan shook off this thought. She believed that she had done everything with her clear conscience.)
- Ming Shuiyuan: The most complicated contraption cannot fathom a human heart. I only have to be true to my heart.
Clouds in Eyes[]

- (Thousands of miles away, at Cloud Capital.)
- (The whole imperial city was now decorated with lanterns. In the Hall of Peace, Bai Yongxi is not working. Little Empress is imploring him for a bed story.)
- Bai Yongxi: Since it's a festival today, let me tell you a story about the festival.
- Cloud Empress: No, I've read them in books already. I want to hear the swordsman's stories like the one you told me last time!
- Bai Yongxi: Your majesty likes these stories?
- Cloud Empress: Yes! They are far more interesting than those old classics. And they sound like they are happening outside right now.
- Bai Yongxi: Then let's have another 'swordsman' story today.
- Cloud Empress: What's his name? Does he have any awesome titles like Brother Xi?
- Bai Yongxi: She doesn't have a cool name. There's a kind of swordsman who walks in the dark but fights for the light.
- Bai Yongxi: The story of this swordsman will start from the North Trade Zone established recently...
- Cloud Empress: What happened later!? Did she find out the truth?
- Bai Yongxi: I'm not sure if she has succeeded or not. But if she fails, how will you judge facing the questions of courtiers, Your Majesty?
- (Little Empress looked up at Bai Yongxi, whose brow locked tightly as if what he just said was not a mere story. It's the first time Brother Xi looked so serious in her memory.)
- Cloud Empress: The sister went to save the people, right? Of course, I will stand by her side. Brother Xi, am I right?
- (Bai Yongxi rubbed her hair, neither nodding nor shaking his head.)
- Bai Yongxi: It's Your Majesty's decision. You don't have to ask for the opinions of others.
- Cloud Empress: Hmm, let me think... Brother Xi once said that I'm the emperor, and I should make sure that the people of Cloud are all happy and safe.
- Cloud Empress: The sister is also a Cloud person, so I think, she doesn't have to do this, at least... She should not be doubted after doing this.
- Cloud Empress: Protecting the north, the whole Cloud, is my duty.
- (Surprised, Bai Yongxi looked at the emperor, leaned down, and asked.)
- Bai Yongxi: So, Your Majesty, how should we protect the north?
- Cloud Empress: Emmmm... Let me think...
- (Bai Yongxi took the little empress to the balcony outside. The Hall of Peace was very high and there, stars felt very close and you could see the whole city.)
- Bai Yongxi: This vast land will be under your reign. Your Majesty, have you considered how you will rule it?
- (The howling night winds sent over the joyful songs and lively laughter of people. The Little Empress pondered over the problem which had troubled all the rulers.)
- (Is the bright future of Cloud hidden in the dark night and dense mist?)

- Shade: ...
- Officer: This is the room they prepared especially for you. And these toys and clothes. They always talked about giving you the best.
- Officer: (Sigh.) Who would know that when you are finally back, they are no longer here anymore.
- (There is sadness in the Officer's eyes, but Shade seems untouched.)
- Shade: What is this?
- Officer: A woodcarving you made when you were a kid. Your parents once took you back to North to have the winter vacation. That's when I taught you the wood carving tricks.
- Officer: Look, this is your work of your father. Haha, nothing is like him except the beard!
- (Officer laughs out. Obviously, he really misses the days, but he stops talking and only pats Shade's shoulder.)
- (With the lost memories nowhere to be found, Shade inspects this sweet room and puts the woodcarving into his pocket.)
- (Base of League Tyr, Operating Room, 7 p.m.)
- (Shade rubs the woodcarving made into an amulet while waiting, its edges now smooth. However, the story he once believed deeply turned out to be a perfectly wrapped lie.)
- Brown-haired Nurse: All things are ready. Come in with simple and comfortable clothes.
Concluding Dialogue[]
- (Shade follows the nurse into the operating room and lies on a metal chair. The nurse lifts up his silver hair and places several cool metal chips on his head.)
- Silver-haired Nurse: Indicator normal, signal stable, ready to inject.
- (As the muddy and dense reagent slowly injected into Shade's vein, it slightly bulges like an ugly worm, crawling to his heart.)
- (Shade seems untouched through all this. The report of the medical department claimed that the brain surgery left an irrevocable sequela and he has to take the injection every month.)
- Brown-haired Nurse: It's done. Please stay for another quarter. Just in case.
- (Shade nods. He feels a bit sleepy, so he closes his eyes to have a nap. On the detector, the colored lines beat regularly with faint beeping sounds.)
- (Everything looks normal, except for the top-secret instruction sent today at the bottom of the documents.)

- Flynn: Belt, belt, where is my belt? Simon, did you hide it?
- Simon: Why would I do that? Hurry up, the last dormitory to assemble will be punished!
- Orlando: Just grab one from my wardrobe and get going.
- Flynn: Thanks!
- Flynn: This is Cat Feeder I newly invented. Mr. Lancelot will definitely love it!
- Nina: Stop bullying Mr. Lancelot.
- Flynn: There will be no error this time! I have tested it thoroughly. See, isn't it working well?
- Nina: But it looks more like a Cat Teaser... Ah! The soup spills out! Brother Orlando!
- Orlando: F-L-Y-N-N!
- Strange Man: Save this piece of brain tissue.
- Strange Girl: Got it. Huh? Doctor, the subject's indicator is abnormal.
- Strange Man: Seems that they sent us a subject with anesthesia resistance. Give him another shot.
- Strange Girl: Hehe, this subject must be very strong. The experiment this time...
- (As the strange voice drifted away, Flynn somehow sensed what would happen next. In the darkness, he rushed toward the voice but could not find the way out.)
- Flynn: No... Stop, stop... Please!
Wake up, Flynn.
- (The familiar but also strange name feels like a spell. Fragments of memories flood in and the duo of Flynn and Shade drives him crazy.)
- Flynn: What are these memories? Have I done those things? No, it's impossible... I have to get out of here!
- (Flynn gathered his courage and went on running, expecting that there would be a bright gate by the end and everything would be back to normal after he stepped through.)
- Reid: Didn't I tell you I'll handle the silver-hair girl?
- Flynn: Silver hair or black hair, it doesn't matter.
- Flynn: My target is White Blossom.
- Orlando: You are...

- (The blurred conversation echoed in the darkness again. The memory fragments formed a picture and Flynn saw himself raise the gun at the Orlando with no expression.)
No——!

- Soldier: Will we be punished if the officer sees us pointing guns against him?
- Silver-haired Nurse: It's alright, he won't remember all this.
- Flynn: (The soldiers are wearing North uniforms. Am I in the North? Did Viper collude with the North Kingdom?! This is big news. I gotta report to the commander.)
- (Flynn tried to struggle free from the belts, but they were too firmly tied to the chair. He could only stand up abruptly and charged toward the unprepared soldiers with the chair.)
- Soldier: The Officer is awake!
- Silver-haired Nurse: He is very likely to have lost his mind! Don't let him escape. Use the anesthetic gun!
- (Flynn turned his back to the soldiers and used the metal chair as cover to get to the operating table. He picked up a scalpel to cut himself loose and retreated outside.)
- (As siren reverberated through the building, Flynn blindly searched for the exit in the complicated structure. Yet meanwhile, the place felt inexplicably familiar.)
- (He entered a dark office intuitively and found a sniper rifle on the sofa. He hid behind the door alertly, listening to the footsteps outside.)
- Soldier A: What happened?
- Soldier B: Officer Shade suddenly went mad, and the medical department sounded the alarm. We have to find him immediately.
- Soldier A: It's Officer Shade we're talking about. He's the Lone Wolf. How can we possibly stop him! And the majority of the troops have followed the general to Black Water City...
- Soldier B: But I heard that someone broke in this afternoon and the base has been locked completely. Even Officer Shade won't be able to escape.
- (The flurried steps gradually left. The corridor went quiet again.)
- Flynn: (The soldiers have left. I'd better find a military suit here to disguise as one of them.)
Concluding Dialogue[]
- (It was getting dark, and the heavy snow almost blocked his view. He had covered some distance from the base.)
- (Flynn's heart pounded violently and his body temperature was abnormally high in the snow. As blood rushed to the heart, he suddenly went blind, and it took a while to recover.)
- Flynn: (Cannot stop here. I would definitely be found...)
- (Flynn used the sniper rifle as a walking stick and trudged in the deep snow. But next second, he found it hard to breath and fell unconsciously on the ground.)

- (Shade slowly opened his eyes. Orlando was looking at him anxiously. He could hear the loud sound of water crashing into rocks. This should be the waterfall southeast to the base.)
- Shade: (I was taking an injection in the operating room. Why am I here?)
- (Shade alertly tried to raise his gun but, in a surprise, found himself too weak to do that.)
- Shade: (The injection was done. This is strange... Did this Apple officer rig the operation.)
- (The worry of weak limbs was soon replaced by the concern about his mind. Some unknown memories are roaming his mind and he couldn't remember his past.)
- (This chaos was just like when he was saved by a League Tyr doc after the North Embassy in Apple was bombed. The memory abandoned him and he was left in the bewilderment.)
- Orlando: You're finally awake! What happened?
- (As he asked that, he could hear barking hounds and conversing soldiers from afar.)
- Soldier: Search every nook and cranny! Don't let him escape from the base!
- Shade: So you are the intruder this afternoon. What are you doing here?
- (Orlando ruminated as hesitation, doubt, and a flash of expectation shine in his green eyes. He said nothing in the end.)
- Shade: The soldiers are very near. It's a bit late to make up a lie.
- Orlando: I... I'm just here to get something. Calm down. We could talk.
- Shade: I didn't receive any orders against you. Take your thing and leave.
- Orlando: I can leave it to you. And I think you would be interested in it.
- (Orlando took a plastic bag out of his pocket and handed it to Shade. It was a bag of League Tyr for confidential files, labeled 'Shade-Top Secret'. A note was sealed inside.)
- Flynn: Brother Flynn and Brother Orlando, come on, you will surely get the Immortal Glory Medal.--Nina... What's this?
- (The handwriting was very familiar, Shade couldn't think of its owner after searching in his memory.)
- Orlando: It's from the archive, listed 'Top Secret' by League Tyr. Maybe you want to know your past that I know?
- Shade: Compared with your story, I prefer investigating myself. I'll tell them it's normal here, but you need some luck to escape.
- (Shade put away the note and walked out from where they were hiding to the soldiers, but the soldiers didn't drop the guard seeing him.)
- Soldier A: It's Officer Shade!
- Soldier B: Ready your guns! It's a cliff behind him and he could jump off to escape!
- (The gunshot comes and Orlando's mind goes all blank for a moment. What a familiar scene, the loud waterfall, the chasing enemy, and the loss of his friend after the gunshot.)
- (Will I let the tragedy happen again? No, Shade's revival is the chance fate gave me. Orlando threw himself to Flynn.)
- (The bullet hit Orlando's leg and the two rolled on the ground and then fell down the waterfall.)
- Orlando: I did it this time...

- Shade: Let's have some rest here. Bandage your wound or the hounds will find us soon.
- (As he talked, blue blood veins gradually show up on Shade's face. Under the pale moonlight, he looked like an asura from the hell.)
- Orlando: What did they do to you? Surgery? Drugs? And why did they open fire at you today?
- Shade: I don't know as well.
- Orlando: When I saw you, you had fainted in the snow, as if you had just escaped from the Base of League Tyr. Do you remember anything?
- Shade: No, I passed out during the treatment and when I woke up, I found myself in the snow. They must think I have known something I shouldn't.
- Orlando: If there is anything they don't want you to know, then it must be related to your identity.
- Shade: ...
- Orlando: Since you also have doubts about your identity, why stay in the North? In the past, you would definitely not be an obedient pawn.
- Shade: ... How would I if you are not using me as a pawn?
- (Shade finally spoke after a long silence. He was holding a small voice recorder. In a surprise, Orlando reached for his pocket but of course, the recorder was gone.)
- Shade: It would have fallen into the waterfall had I not caught it. This must be the real target of your invasion.
- (Shade pressed the PLAY button and it started playing a conversation between two men.)
- Put it down in black and white is my bottom line. If Mr. General insists on videotaping, I can only refuse this cooperation.
- Mr. President has every reason to be cautious. Shut it down. Let's sign the papers.
- Orlando: This is indeed one of my missions in the base... But I also wanted to get this note at any cost. Shade, I'm now certain that you are my former comrade, Flynn.
- (Looking at the man in heavy sadness, Shade, somehow reminded of the officer who cried silently while patting his back, frowned.)
- Orlando: Believe it or not, but I really hope you can find your own past and make your own decision. But not like this, walking on the path without knowing it's right or wrong.
- Shade: I will. You saved me so I owe you. Have some rest. I'll take you out of here.
- (Orlando was thinking otherwise. He took a bullet for him, yes, but it only evened what Flynn had done to you. He was worried more about the mission.)
- Orlando: I will not be able to move fast with the wound. Please take this recorder out to the south of the waterfall. Schiller will be there. You know who he is, right
- Orlando: If he shows up before midnight, please pass him the recorder and get him out of here. If he fails, please pass it to... Kimi of the Apple Apparel Group. Tell her it's Or...
- (Orlando's voice gradually faded and finally he lost his consciousness. The wound was heavy and he lost too much blood.)
- (Shade found a small cave nearby and hid Olrando there then camouflaged the cave entrance.)
- (He looked back at the base of League Tyr, brightly lit today for the festival.)
- (The warm shelter looked very close but somehow very remote. He knew he didn't belong to it.)
- (He took out the note now wetted by water and gently rubbed the words.)
- Shade: Nina... Is this a new clue, or another trap?
- (He picked up the sniper rifle and walked into the darkness away from the lights. The night gently swallowed his lonely shadow.)
- (Tonight, between the dim past and uncertain future, Shade found his direction for the first time. By the end of the night, will he find his own light?)
- (The silent mountains didn't reply and the north wind kept howling.)

- (Black Water City, King's office, 5 p.m.)
- Knight: Lord Agatha, we can't keep this a secret forever.
- Agata: Wait a minute, let me think...
- (In the dim office, old king Ryan lies on the desk, his heart no longer beating.)
- (As the Knight Commander, Agata should have informed all the royalty in no time, but she now thinks about something else.)
- Agata: With no will left, the king's sudden death out of illness will surely throw the kingdom into a turmoil...
- (The knight follows Agata's sight, and sees a huge map of North Kingdom dotted with flags on the table, every one of them standing for an ambitious power.)
- Knight: No will is left, which means every warlord has equal inheritance rights.
- Agata: Right.
- Agata: Natalia is stationed closest to Black Water City, so she may be the first to arrive. No one would want the battle of Mordosa years ago to repeat itself again in Black Water City.
- Knight: But General Natalia was fighting against the rebellion... Do you think she would provoke a war for the throne?
- Agata: Considering how ambitious for power, we have to plan for the worst.
- Agata: Besides her, Snow Eagle Legion definitely will not miss this. And it won't take long for them to come either as there is a direct train from White Rock City.
- Knight: The majority of the railway system has been controlled by League Tyr. They would not let Snow Eagle pass so easily.
- Agata: Yeah, League Tyr. How can I forget them. They have long been openly hostile to the royalty, and they will surely take advantage of this turmoil.
- Agata: With so many people vying for the throne, setting this information loose is like throwing bait in the shark swarm. The entire North will be a blood storm.
- Knight: But as the Kingdom Knights, we are not supposed to intervene in the battle of the throne.
- (Agata sighs. Will she stand by while the country slips into the mire of war?)
- (Looking outside at the slowly falling snowflakes, Agata's thought drifts to somewhere afar, the high snow mountain where the land is too frozen to be plowed.)
- Agata: Wait, we may still have a chance...

- (New Era, year 671.)
- (It has been snowing for 3 consecutive days. After the long wading, several houses finally appear on the horizon.)
- Bran: So sorry for all the troubles. I'll walk the rest of the way by myself. I won't look like an invisible passerby with all the knights escorting me.
- Agata: There are warm clothing and blankets in the carriage, so let me drive it for you.
- Bran: No, that's too much trouble. I can handle it myself. And I probably won't need that many fine shiny stuff.
- (Bran lightly whips the brown horse, who only answers with a snort. Bran laughs embarrassingly.)
- Agata: Living in the mountains is much harder than you think. You'd better be prepared.
- Bran: Actually, it is easier for me to live here. I'm just sorry Teacher has to suffer with me.
- Teacher: Don't mention it. I'm old and it's time to find a place to enjoy my retirement.
- Bran: They wouldn't have treated you like this if was not for me.
- (Bran sighs and looks up at the hight [sic] mountain. The snow-capped mountains and the white sky become one, forming boundless confinement.)
- (A goshawk flies over the mountain to the other side, leaving a long shriek in the sky.)
- Bran: Have you been to the Apple Federation, Commander?
- Agata: No.
- Bran: I heard that you can see Apple's capital, Welton, from the top when the weather is good. It's a free country and everything is decided in a fair way. Even the rulers are elected.
- (Bran's tied [sic] eyes flash a bright shimmer. Agata suddenly thinks this young princess [sic] might not be as weak and incompetent as rumors said. He has a dream, though an impractical one.)
- Agata: Maybe there really is such a place.
- Agata: It's the wooden house that the king arranged for you. I hope you can find your enjoyment here, and Kingdom Knights will always be at your service.
- Bran: Thank you. By the way, can you please pass this to my father, take it as... A farewell gift, if he's still willing to accept it.
- (Bran takes a long birch bow from his cloak. It's simply embellished with copper bars and cow bones. Strong, but light, it is a good bow.)
- Agata: I'll pass it to him on your behalf.
- Agata: Maybe... We still have a chance.
- (In many leisurely afternoons later, Agata saw the king sitting on the throne, rubbing the bow in a low spirit.)
- Agata: The King has never forgotten Prince Bran. Perhaps in his heart, the Prince is the right choice for the heir.
- Agata: If Prince Bran can be found, he will be his heir apparent, and then the warlords will have no reason to attack Black Water City.
- (Hasty knocks interrupts Agata's thoughts.)
- Silver-haired Knight: Lord Agata, bad news. The servant who found the king dead is missing!
- Red-haired Knight: Lord Agata! A Darksnow Outpost troop has requisitioned the railway and is heading towards Black Water City!
- Agata: Damn, the servant might have been bought off long ago... Build a team and escort Prince Bran from Glavier! Tell the rest to gather at the gate.
- Knights: Yes!
- Agata: It will be very cold in the snow mountains. Be sure to wear warm uniform.

- (As the sky turns dark, there is a snowstorm on the horizon. Several warlords arrive in the Black Water City almost at the same time, their banners fluttering in the wind.)
- Vedrfol: Why didn't Kingdom Knights announce the death of the king? What are you trying to hide?
- Snow Eagle Legion Head: Let us enter the Royal City and investigate the real cause of the king's death.
- Natalia: Everyone is a lawful heir here, but only the most powerful one deserve the right. Drop those disgusting shows.
- Vedrfol: General Natalia is still so forthright. However, the North Kingdom is too large a place to rule for a foolhardy soldier. It needs a leader, a man of wisdom.
- Natalia: We'll see!
- (General Natalia angrily wields her long spear and gives the order to attack. Then the other warlords join the fight too.)
- Agata: Guard the gates. Let none of them enter and protect the civilians.
- Silver-haired Knight: Lord Agata! There is an Apple designer in League Tyr who challenged us to simple and fashionable style and we all lost!
- Agata: So League Tyr has really colluded with Apple Federation... I'll show her the strength of Kingdom Knight.
Concluding Dialogue[]
- Agata: Kingdom Knights will not allow an army to enter the Royal City! Stop your futile attack!
- (However, no one outside pays attention to Agata's words.)
- Agata: They won't listen at the moment. We can only wish the knights have found Prince Bran...
- (Like responding Agata's thoughts, another army appears on the horizon. As they draw close, the sea of navy armor surrounds the other armies.)
- (They are led by proud Duke Dimitry. Behind him, there is a splendidly decorated carriage which looks very unbefitting on the battlefield.)
- (Duke waves his hand, then soldiers remove the protection boards around the carriage, revealing the person sitting inside, Prince Bran.)
- Dimitry: Get out of the way. In the name of the Prince.

- Natalia: The heir? Speaking of the heir, the blood of Catherine courses the vein of everyone. Who isn't an heir?
- Dimitry: Have you forgotten? The king's son, Prince Bran, is the rightful heir. And he's right here.
- (After being set up and expelled, the name Bran now sounds a little strange. The young prince banished to the snow mountains is still alive?)
- (But anyway, the warlords do not come here to bow to someone else.)
- Natalia: This ashen country boy is the prince? Stop fooling everyone.
- Dimitry: I, of course, do not have the say in his identity. The prince has a token entrusted to him by the king. Kingdom Knight can be the judge.
- Dimitry: After I escort the prince into the Royal City, of course.
- Natalia: Stop kidding us. I'm not acknowledging his identity.
- Dimitry: Denying the prince is equal to rebellion. If it's what you mean, I'll take action by the order of the future king!
- (Obviously, Duke Dimitry has come prepared. Agata looks down from the wall, and the troops in navy armors seem to be a beast, slowly devouring the other banners.)
- Dimitry: Haha, all the betrayers of the North will be punished. Knights of the Kingdom, by the king's order, open the gate!
- (The king's order cannot be defied. Agata has to give out the order.)
- Agata: ... Open the city gate.
- (The thick rope is lowered, and the giant gate creaks open as it slowly descends.)
- (Dimitry raises his sword and cries out, launching the final charge. The troops follow him to start charging.)
- (The dust rises in the trampling sound of the horses. Suddenly, Bran falls off, and with a rope that ties his hands behind his back, he's dragged like a ragdoll...)
- (The iron wheel crushed Bran's body and leaving a long trace of blood. Nobody noticed the expression of relief on his face.)
- Soldier: The prince... The prince is dead!
- Knight A: Dimitry kidnapped the prince! We have to avenge the prince!
- Knight B: But judging from the situation, Duke Dimitry will be the new king. We cannot fight the future king.
- (But most of the knights choose to remain silent. They are waiting for the order of Agata.)
- Knights of the Royal City cannot disobey the next King.
- Agata: Kingdom Knights cannot defy future king.
- Knight D: So the Kingdom Knights will serve those who kidnapped the prince?

- (The howling north wind blows onto Agata's face with snowflakes, delivering chilling cold.)
- Agata: (Naga. It was a snowy day like this when we parted...)
- Naga: What do you want to do when you grow up?
- Agata: I'll be a Kingdom Knight, saving people from troubles, just like the one who saved us.
- Naga: Awesome! I want to be a designer and I can design knight clothes for you.
- Agata: And I'll be the best among all the knights! I'll use my strength to bring peace to this land!
- The King: I don't feel well, Agata. I'll skip today's meeting.
- Agata: Are you alright? Let me call the doctor for you. Andrew, cancel the meeting for today.
- The King: No, let them go as planned. Just pass me the files to be signed afterward.
- Knight: It's unfair to the civilians!
- Agata: I will think of a compromise, but first of all, remember that as a knight, you cannot disobey your lord.
- (The past moments flash in her eyes and in the heavy snow, Agata sees Bran's shy smile. The 'weak' prince chooses to jump off the carriage and end his own life.)
- Agata: (What are we, the Kingdom Knights, guarding when the heir does not even want to be a king?)
- Agata: (Is it this vain glory of knights, or this corrupted system?)
- Dimitry: The city gate is open! Leave the others, take the Royal City first!
- Agata: (Naga, sorry that I cannot keep our old promise... But I think, you will understand.)
- Agata: Knights of the Kingdom!
- (In the chaos, all the knights look up at Agata, her blond long hair fluttering in the wind like a bright banner.)
- Agata: Every one of you. We all went through countless trials and years of hard training before we stand here today.
- Agata: A knight means to have the heart of a knight and follows the chivalry. I was once lost on the way chasing the real meaning of chivalry.
- Agata: I admired Old Knight Commander and used to take him as my model, but I strayed during the imitation.
- Agata: In fact, I left my hometown and took the trial, all because I want to protect the North, to free people from the pain of war.
- Agata: Today, I finally found my chivalry. As a knight, I'm not serving any king or any country, but all the people living on the land!
- (Ripping off the badge of sword and shield on her chest, she looks at it seriously for a long while, then throws it away forcefully.)
- I give up my position as Royal City's Knight Commander;
- The greedy warlord and decaying regime shall not be my master anymore;
- A true knight should fight for peace and freedom!
- (The heavy city gate is now completely open with a huge bang.)
- Defending Knight: But, Knight Commander, this is rebellion...
- Guardian Knight: Rebellion? What do you think the warlord outside is doing?
- (The Kingdom Knights fall into great turmoil. Beside the hesitation, cowardice, and doubt of others, Agata draws the sword and walks to the city gate alone.)
- (Facing an entire army, the lone knight does not fear. The true chivalry is worth dying for.)

- Alexander: I wish it will have a good price. The kids are asking for gifts.
- Yvette: I made some small handicrafts in my spare time. Not sure if anyone wants to buy them.
- Alexander: Pity that Teacher is getting old. Before, he could earn a lot of money selling some designs.
- Old Hunter: Stop talking nonsense. Yvette, is your wound on leg better? It's festival today, let's brew a big meat stew tonight! The kids will be very happy.
- Yvette: Thanks to the care of you all. It's getting much better.
- (At the border station some days ago, the soldiers who escorted Yvette had a fight with some other people. In the chaos, the old hunter saved her and took her to Glavier.)
- (However, the reminiscence is soon interrupted by a kid's voice.)
- Sasha: Ahhh--!
- Old Hunter: What happened, Sasha?
- Sasha: Many soldiers came and took Teacher away!
- Old Hunter: What soldiers? Why did they take Teacher away?
- Sasha: I don't know. Town Mayor let me ask everyone to go back to find a solution!

- (The messy classroom is telling people silently about the atrocity that happened here. Town Mayor and some others are already here, discussing what to do next.)
- Sasha: We were in the class and those people suddenly rushed in.
- Boy: After they took the teacher away, I secretly followed them and saw them go up the mountain.
- Town Mayor: You did a good job, Sasha! Everyone, grab your weapons and let's go.
- (There is light snow in the air but the snow on the ground gets thicker every step they take deep into the mountains. Following the footprints, they come to a secret base.)
- Black-hair Soldier: It's time to change shifts. You can leave now. I'll watch him.
- Tall Soldier: OK, I'm going to have a drink.
- Black-hair Soldier: Don't drink too much! If we let the old guy run away, we're screwed.
- Tall Soldier: He's really bullheaded. If he just listens to the Duke, he could have everything he wants.
- Black-hair Soldier: Another stubborn royalist... Let him play hard now, soon Duke will have the chief designer to 'persuade' him.
- Town Mayor: They must imprison Teacher in the tent. These people are wearing the uniform of Dimitry. What do they want Teacher for?
- Yvette: Teacher once showed us some extremely precious designs in the classes. Maybe he's more than he looks.
- Town Mayor: You mean he could be some big shot before he came here?... But if so, why would he come to live in such a small place?
- Old Hunter: No matter who he was, he's not captured and we have to save him.
- Town Mayor: Dimitry's men are not to be trifled with. They are real killers. Peter, you are the fastest of us. Find out how many men are there and we should get them one by one.
- Peter: No problem.
- Yvette: What will we do with them...
- Town Mayor: Knock them out or beat them up. Do what you have to do.
- Yvette: What about the Blood Curse? By the words of the soldiers, there seems to be a Duke who seeks his help. So they won't hurt Teacher. Maybe we can come up with a better idea.
- Alexander: I have an idea! The teacher has taught us styling skills for so long, hoping we can improve a bit in styling contests. Why don't we try to solve the problem this way?
- Peter: Styling contests are the game of designers and stylists. We can never defeat the professional soldiers.
- Alexander: Don't give up so early even if we are less gifted. My skills have been praised by Teacher. Let me have a try, maybe we still have a chance.
- (The man with a broad smile waves his hand at everyone and walks toward the soldier in the open place directly.)
- Black-hair Soldier: Who goes there!?
- Alexander: I want to challenge you to a styling contest. If I win, set free the man locked in the room.

- Alexander: But...
- Tall Soldier: The loser has no right to speak. Do it yourself, or we'll make you do it.
- (Alexander hesitates but reluctantly takes off his patched coat in the end. The freezing wind gives him shivers.)
- Black-hair Soldier: And the top! Hey, someone inside gives me a rope!
- (A corner of the tent is raised. A soldier inside hands out a rope. The tall soldier and black-hair soldier ties Alexander to the tent pillar.)
- Tall Soldier: Hey! Designer! Look, a big hero came to save you and he's now with us. If you do as Duke tells you, we'll let him go. If you don't, let's pray he could survive the weather naked.
- Teacher: Who? Who is he? What did you do to him?!
- (The tall soldier makes a snowball and throws it at Alexander's naked chest. The biting cold almost numbs his mind, but he manages not to cry out.)
- Tall Soldier: Hmm, another stubborn fool. Hey, old man, think it over. You got a man's life in your hands.
- (Tall Soldier opens the bottle and randomly pours the remaining wine on Alexander's hair and walks back to the tent. The cold liquid flows down his hair, slowly forming an icicle.)
- Sasha: Dad!
- (The young girl can't bear to see her father being humiliated like this. As she prepares to run out and save him, Town Mayor stops her.)
- Sasha: I have to save Dad!
- Town Mayor: No, when the soldier walks back to the tent, there seem to be a dozen men inside. We cannot act rashly.
- Sasha: There is only one soldier outside there. I'll be very quick.
- Town Mayor: But we all will be exposed then. How are we supposed to save Teacher!
- Sasha: Dad's leg was hurt before. The doctor said he couldn't catch cold. Sister just said it would be OK to save the teacher later. Can't we save my dad first?
- Peter: Your father's action has made the soldiers on alert. If we create more problems, it will be difficult to save Teacher.
- Sasha: Saving one is better than saving no one!
- Town Mayor: Sasha, we know you want to save your dad. But you might not know what life was like before Teacher came.
- Peter: We people were famous for our weakness in styling, and people took advantage of this. When we refused the styling contest, we were simply blacklisted by the shops.
- Town Mayor: The situation only got better after Teacher came to this place and taught us styling skills. That's why you can live without worrying about food today.
- Peter: We want to save your dad, but saving Teacher is much more important!
- (Peter spoke while holding the girl's wrist. His words are like a sharp dagger striking into the girl's heart cruelly. Her eyes are full of tears.)
- (Children's world is always simpler than the adult's. Sasha cannot understand why adults can easily choose one life and give up the other.)
- (Peter's words also overcasts Yvette's heart.)
- Yvette: (Rules are necessary for the world to function normally, but can styling contest really be the rule to judge whether a life is important or not?)
- (Before Yvette could answer herself. A hunter went out to scout comes back, whose words make Yvette stop thinking.)
- Hunter: Mayor, I just walked around and found that the arsenal of these guys is not far away from here.
- Town Mayor: An arsenal?... Great, I have a plan!

- Peter: There is no reason to pity for the death of Dimitry's men. Stop being a coward. I'll get this done.
- Sasha: No. Uncle Peter! Don't go!
- (Peter faltered as he heard the words from the crying girl.)
- Peter: Stop crying. You're not a little girl anymore. Remembered I promised to take you to watch fireworks? I'm a man of my word.
- Sasha: I don't want to watch the fireworks. I understand what they're talking about, and you'll be captured just like dad!
- Sasha: We were supposed to have a happy festival, but Dad was caught because of Teacher, and Uncle Peter... None of this will happen if not for Teacher!
- Town Mayor: What are you talking about? Have you forgotten how nice teacher treated you?
- (The girl looked up, but her eyes were now full of anger and denial.)
- Yvette: Actually... Sasha got a point. Is it worthy to do all this for Teacher?
- Town Mayor: We won't force women to fight. You just stay here if you're afraid.
