Lore[]
Item Descriptions[]
When I realized, the change had set in. I startled from a dream in the attic of the ancient house.
— Undying Moonlight
The crescent rises high and I hear more: the cry of babies, the noise of a party, and quarrel, and sigh.
— Sound of Crescent
Then I sat up, but the sound, like a snowflake in palm, disappeared instantly.
— Soundless Snow
A toy bear on the desk. Listen carefully, and you may hear the happy cry of the girl when she received the gift.
— Treasured Old Dream
Finally, I came to the mirror. I raised my hand and she lifted her hand. I moved a step back and she smiled at me.
— Real and Virtual
I heard the cry when I was born, the noise of my parties and, after all the pages, the declaration of the doctor.
— Ruins of Age
I slung the lamp to the mirror with all my strength. As the sound came, countless memories crowded in
— Return of Souls
I heard my mother's sob, my father's sigh. They lit up a white candle and sealed my last soul in this ancient mirror.
— Flame Requiem
I clean the house room by room. Dining room, study, bedroom, all the dust on memories have to be cleaned.
— Night Dew Bead
I lived many years in the old house. I wash my hair with cool well water and comb it with silver ornament.
— Silver Long Hair
Thousands of years passed, but I'm still here, in this little square world.
— One-lamp Room
Step by step, I walked toward the only mirror in the house. In the moonlight, I saw a girl as delicate as night dew
— Snowy Eyes
If the mirror is broken, so is my soul. But next moment I found the lamp frozen just one inch away from the mirror.
— Silver Moon
I still live in the mirror, with all the memories that never go old, the trace of my existence, the proof of love.
— Mirror Tale
Interpretation[]
The story starts with a girl who lived in an old house for many years. Using cold well water to wash her hair, she combs it with a silver ornament. She cleaned the house room by room to remove the dust from all the memories. The rooms included are the dining room, study, and bedroom. She then found the only mirror in the house, and approached it step by step. In the moonlight, she saw a delicate girl, and when she came close enough to raise her hand, the girl lifted her hand as well. Taken aback, she moved a step back when the girl on the other side smiled at her. She slung her lamp at the mirror with all her might, but when a certain sound came (which can't be the mirror breaking as that would contradict the description of Silver Moon), she remembered countless of memories.
She found herself in a dream in the attic of the old house. The various sounds she heard awakened her memory: the cry when she was born, the noise of her parties (presumably birthday or baby parties), and later, the declaration from the doctor (possibly from the sound of flipping pages). It is possible that the girl had some kind of disease. When the crescent moon rose high, she heard more: the cry of babies, the noise of a party, a quarrel and a sigh. The sigh belonged to her father and with it she heard her mother's sobs. They had lit up a white candle and sealed her soul in the ancient mirror. To make it even more tragic, there was a toy bear on her desk, and if you listened carefully, you could have heard the happy cry of the girl when she received it as a gift, indicating that she had a happy upbringing.
Thus she realized what she truly was: a soul trapped inside the mirror. Then when she sat up, the sound disappeared instantly. Even though thousands of years had passed, she still lived inside the mirror with all the memories that never go old. It was her trace of existence and "the proof of love". Whose love it is isn't revealed; it can either be hers of her parents'.
If the mirror is broken so will her soul; the lamp she flung had frozen one inch away from the mirror, an indication that it can't be broken easily.
