Hi Chris! I hope you're doing well and it's great to see you on the wiki again!! I was actually writing about some of the item descriptions you've done. Most of them are great, but some are actually... a bit too long? Which it doesn't seem like there could be such a thing as too long, but we're trying to keep a few factors in mind here: 1, for pages to have a similar level of detail/consistency rather than some being much longer than others, and 2, for text to not overwhelm readers and just tell them what they need to know about the item (obviously this isn't just the case for items, but for every page eg lore). It's only somewhat recently that we started taking item appearances into consideration (within past 6 months or so) but I know you're not active on the discord so I wanted to give you a heads up lolol cause I don't want you to waste a lot of effort writing super long descriptions! (Ex. of what I mean is like going into detail about individual lines on an item etc.)
This is me telling you now! We really haven't been looking that closely at it, so it hasn't been even close to our #1 concern, especially since longer item descriptions are still preferable to shorter ones. If you want to write more, then so be it, as long as it isn't an issue going forward!
Yeah, basically that, or, if you're not sure/in doubt, don't stress about getting every last detail (tho understandable if you enjoy it!). Really, most of them you've been doing are perfect and it's obviously subjective, it's not like there is actually a word limit lmao!
I'm not sure if you know, but the Pages that need improvement category contains quite some pages without appearance description that could use your help. The category is added by the coming soon template, so just remove the coming soon to remove the page from the category.
Hi, I'm here requesting for the admin role. After playing this game for a long time, and I also have a lot of free time, I want to contribute to the wiki. Since I don't know much about editing the fandom (templates, etc.) I could only put in some text. However, I would really like to help out more. If you accept this or not, I would ask you to comment on my page on how I could contribute more in order to gain this role.
Well, right now we have a couple Admin and I'm not sure we need more, I've been inactive as of late (something I've been planning on changing though) but we seem to be fine. But I don't suppose there's any harm in at least considering it...
When we look for an Admin who isn't doing the "behind the scenes stuff" (templates, beautifying the wiki, etc), we want to see a hardworker who does a lot of edits, so that we know they're a serious and active user, and we have to get to know this person a bit. We don't want to grant someone Admin and have them go crazy with power you know? XD or be a jerk to other members. The person also has to be willing to communicate with other Admin before doing anything really major to the wiki.
So in saying this, I would like to wait a little while so that we can see how you operate, because from what I saw, your edits aren't bad but you're a new member, and I think you need more time and experience.
Heya! Kuhlau has requested for admin. I'm certain you already know this but Kuhlau is our moderator who has contributed to the wiki a long time now and she's basically responsible for almost anything that has to do with lore. ShadowQuxxn and I have approved of her since she's been on the team for so long and poured so much into the wiki, so if you can make her an admin, that'd be great :D
Ooh I love those~ I hold those on a few other game wikia I'm on.
Anyway, looking between the two... Both of them have a dreamy softness to them. But I would have to choose the first entry, Daydream thinking of you. I like that it alludes to a girl in the middle of a daydream with her contemplative expression and pose. The image is a bit busier than the other one, but it fits the mood more. Not only that but day dream XD it's during the day.
Ooh~ Sounds tricky, but not impossible. In terms of matching the non-use of 5 stars I can see why it'd be difficult. Both of them are really nice and sell the pretty without luxuriously high ranking items. But at the same time the 2nd entry has items that look highly ranked/fancy, which I feel like it sorta goes against the theme. However, it does look very pretty. I also like enry 1 but the shoes kind of ruin it for me...
Well my entry was super fancy so I don't think it goes against the theme. xD I feel like the shoes gives off a harajuku-feel to the first entry which I'm unsure is a good or a bad thing, the rest I really like. The 2nd entry blends really well together and I love the saturated red accompanied with the yellow/gold. It's a close tie but I'll trust your judgement.
Yeah it has been XD but that's okay. I'm so sorry that I haven't been around much lately, I haven't been feeling all that well and with a bunch of stuff going on in my personal life and a few other wikia, I've been neglecting this place DX
In terms of these entries... neither of them actually look reluctant. But maybe I'm missing the actual meaning? Maybe it's meant to represent that she's "reluctant to be lady-like" rather than "a lady who hesitates due to reluctance"?
Well either way, I really like 1. It has a picturesque nature to it and I feel like it flows more smoothly than the semi-chaotic nature and un-blended bears in the second one, which I'm pretty sure is meant to resemble the movie Brave?
I haven't seen Brave either honestly, besides Frozen I've not really watched the most recent Disney Princess movies, and by recent I mean years now. But I'm used to seeing Brave merchandise and stuff, so that's how I recognized it XD
Hm... I'm not actually sure with this one XD I like them both, but they both also have problems to me. Like I feel that Earth Goddess is too busy looking and I'm having trouble finding it's charm and balance, but at the same time the actual focus point (the outfit) is nice. But the Wind Goddess, I wish they chose a better background, but at the same time I can see how wind would fit in this specific setting with all the plants and it feels very peaceful~
I'm sorry but this one is too tough because to me, they're both on a Pretty good, but they could use some fine-improvement scale.
oof This doesn't make it easy for me lol I agree that the Earth Goddess is super messy, which is a shame since it's the outfit that won me over. I think without the sakura branch and some of the flowers it'd look much better imo. I can't really blame the background choice as the motive is solid but yeah... idk lol. Usually I'd like to avoid my own biases as I'm also competing but I think I'll give it to the Earth Goddess this time.
Just to show off a little here's my entry! She's supposed to be an Undine and while I've used this style before (mermaid tail + staff + waist item) I'm still proud of it xD
ooh fun~ I love the cute idea with the second one, but there's something about the first I really like. Like how the light colors, and sort of pouty look of the person matches the name of it XD I don't know, I really like it.
I like details in both, but I kinda think the first one fits it's name more and isn't cluttered looking, I like how she seems eager. The secondary one really isn't either, but it seems... something about it doesn't flow as well to me.
Yeah I think the first one did the theme justice. I do like the second one too but that may be because of bias (I love Backlight Chord you see).
This round is kind of problematic because one of the winner just joined the styling committee (meaning they get a say in cases like this) and yeah... it's always awkward when you have to judge yourself lol
Oh my, really? Yeah, that would be difficult... but at the same time, maybe only a little? Sometimes when I hold my coord things on a few other series wikia (they're for Japanese idol arcade games where you collect clothing and perform), and sometimes I'll participate. But I'm always a tough critique on myself XD
The attire in the first one is really nice, but I agree, I don't really see the theme in it as much as I do a bunch of randomness (pickpocketing is not a prank unless you plan to give it back~).
Even though the second image used a premade outfit, I really think it suits the theme more. Tricking someone into wearing a costume or specific outfit has always been an April Fools classic. I actually like how out of place this looks because it helps to sell it XD and her look of "uh oh... something is wrong here..." adds icing on the cake.
Yes you're totally right! I was a bit averse on the second one because it used a premade outfit but it fits the theme perfectly.
The competition has become big enough so now I'm also picking honorable mention together with everyone else in the styling committee. It's a bit hard to keep up with different opinions but at the end of the day there can only be.
Well the third one is cute, but I don't really get the cat theme other than to make a cute pun, although it is nicely put together, as is the 2nd one. But for some reason the theme behind it doesn't really go with the actual theme to me personally. Like, the idea of Nikki completely neglecting something like that? How is that maritime?
But to be fair I'm not sure I actually know the meaning of the word...
As simple as it is, I really like the 1st one. I think the twin concept is very cute, and I could see this going on as Nikki and her friends, and anybody else approach a beach.
Well maritime is a synonym to navy so my interpretation is "anything related to the sea", hence the naval theme we have going on. For the 2nd one I interpreted it as Nikki going out to sail but was unaware of the whirlpool.
For me it really is between the 1st one and the 2nd one... but from what everyone else has said the 1st one is tipping over, so I'll go with that!
The styling committee favored carrot cake and in the end majority had to win (the opinion was split with you included). Carrot cake is like the best dessert I know of irl and the design is really cute so I'm not unhappy at all lol.
I've already said it a hundred of times but judging yourself is really hard. Currently we have a perk for the highest tier that their opinion has an "edge" in case the voting is split. There was a case a few themes ago where it was split between 2 winner and one of them was themselves, and that role backfired on them and made the other person win lol. I'm not really sure how to make balance things.
Yeah, I could see why it won so it's not that bad XD and in an odd way it's perfect for Easter.
In terms of balancing, I'm not actually sure of that myself honestly. I just know to stick to what I decided as a theme and the rules and see what happens. If I like more than 1 entry, I'll just let both people win if I really can't make up my mind. It's a lot harder when there's a bunch of people that participate in voting since you have to consider the possibility that they might be biased or trying to spite someone DX
It's all in good sports so I haven't had the latter issue thankfully xD but yeah bias is very troublesome. Due to how discord works I modeled the system so that one person can vote for as many ppl as they want including themselves. This isn't an issue for the big LN discord as it has a lot of people participating, but because of how small our wiki discord is, that one vote really is a deciding factor.
The theme is very open and we got lots of different interpretation (hidden spy, go shopping, a determined queen etc.) but personally I'd say the 2nd one fits the theme better while the 1st one is just really pretty/creative... what do you think?
I pretty much agree with you on this one, the first one looks a lot nicer on the eyes, but for some reason to me the outfit doesn't really suit the situation, at least I think so. I really like the idea but for someone protecting nature I feel like she should be... I don't know, more naturey? Or at least chose more suitable colors?
In the second one everything flows more in terms of style and color, but to me it doesn't feel as creative. I definitely get the theme more in it than the other thought, again it might have to do with the character herself. So as much as I like 1, I'd have to choose 2.
Oh gosh this one hits home for me. I have seasonal/weather change allergies and they're really doing their job today DX I feel terrible...
Okay, well I don't really like the third one very much, the outfit is kind of... well, it's not as nice as the other two. In that kind of setting the character seems out of place. The other two are much more closely related to their settings and seem in place there.
I'm choosing 2 because that's pretty much me right now XD but in all seriousness, I like how it looks. She fits in really well, and I like how she tried to look nice but you can clearly see the signs of her illness and discomfort.
Sorry for the late reply I'm on vacation overseas and I've been really busy x.x and yes I agree with you. I have pollen allergies too so that's definitely a mood lol. But because time was short and not enough people had voiced their opinions in time the 3rd one ended up winning. The 2nd one did become a honorable mention though so that's great.
I'm going back to the issue where it's always awkward when one of the winners have to vote (be it themselves or someone else) so I was thinking of adding a new rule where they have to abstain... think it could work?
Well 1 looks really nice and smooth but I don't feel the Lively/Cute in it. I feel it strongly in the 2nd one, but it's a little messy if you ask me. There's a lot of stuff doing on. 3 is kind of the same in terms of appeal, but it looks like it was handled better and they did a good job combining the two attributes, so I would make that my choice too.
I noticed that Special:Community isn't enabled for this wiki and I wanted to ask if you would be interested in enabling it. The Community page essentially acts as a hub where new and recent editors can see what pages or content needs attention to, and it also has an easy listing of who the staff are. Most of it can be customized so you can direct editors to the right places. What are your thoughts?
It looks good, I never knew it was easy to turn on! We currently have a category called Category:Tasks that lists this kind of information, hopefully some of it can be incorporated into the community feature as I read it can support categories. Especially since some of the pages automatically listed as needing additions are actually complete, they are just short. :D
Category:Stubs should definitely be included, aa it encompasses pages that are pretty much empty
Category:Pages that need improvement is for any pages that are incomplete or need regular additions. An example is Levels since we can't know all of the information about levels without having users manually input it. Anything in this category is probably really easy for a new editor to add to since the base of the page is already created and there is info to go off of, it just needs more info.
Category:No image speaks for itself! (sometimes the page may be incorrectly labeled as having an image by Wiki, because of images of currency/attributes being used in templates, so this is more accurate than using the automatic wiki function)
So, as I don't believe I have the capability to add those categories myself to the community feature, perhaps you or another admin that happens to read this could help~ it would make it much more reflective of our current needs!
Hey Chrismh! There's something I want to talk about with you privately. Do you know if there's a way we can do that? I know you don't use discord so I was thinking if there was any other alternatives ><
Hi Chris! My name is Shrev, and I’m the Fandom Wiki Manager for Love Nikki-Dress UP Queen! Wiki. I am here to help the community and be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, styling, infoboxes, templates, etc., please feel free to contact me on my message wall, or on Discord at Shrev64#0089.
I was wondering if I could be a Content Mod. This would be handy for me as I do a lot with images. I would be able to rename images if I'm uploading a new version anyway, as some names are unpractical, like the screenshot random number ones. I am also online a lot, so I'm often the first to discover that someone stole an image from elsewhere, so I would be able to delete it right away without having to wait for someone else to do it. I also sometimes clean up the unused files, that would also be easier if I could just delete them.
Well, we did just take on another person as a content moderator... but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have another one either, and you do have a lot of edits. I don't think there would be any harm in it, as long as you make sure to talk to the user to avoid any confusion or issues down the line if necessary.
Hello, I recently joined this wiki and have been delighted at the cleanliness of it.
I know that I have been here less than a day but I would like to request Content Mod status to help with clean up and moderating. I've been an admin and bureaucrat of other wikis for about 2 years, so I am trust worth.
There are some small things here and there that I'd like to fix/ touch up. I know the normal practice is to notify a mod but I usually prefer to do it myself instead of messaging mods for various little things I come across. That's not to say this wiki is actually messy! It's just tiny little things like file names.
Either way, I'd understand if you decline my request; respond when you can!
That's great to hear x3 we worked very hard for like... the past year or so now to make it what it is today. I haven't been around very much as of late but we have a lot of users still continuing to see to it that it remains that way.
Anyway, I don't see any harm in that. You seem to know what you're doing, and if you've had experience then that already helps with the decision. I accept the request.
Thank you very much! The only other thing I was going to ask is: Would it be alright to add the price of items into the infobox instead of writting it in the intro? I can edit the infobox source if yes.
Hey hey! Not to butt in or anything, but that'd be a pretty big format change that would require changing thousands of pages, especially given that not all items have a price and some have even had multiples over the course of the game (considering event currency, etc). I know you are content mod now (congrats and I greatly appreciate the help, especially given the state of our filenames lol), but for now it'd be best to address a major change like that kind of thing in a blog post or something similar, so that all of our vv hardworking active page editors can weigh in :D
I understand, I'm used to being an admin and initiating large changes and seeing to them myself (I hate burdening people with monotonous work) That's not to say I can't work with others, I'm just used to doing things by myself as most of the wikis I'm part of aren't as active as this one.
Should it be a blog post on my own page? (I don't really use the blog thing unless for self-reminders) Is there a chat/forum/discord server for mods and admins I could propose my idea to?
I totally understand where you're coming from :D We do have a Discord, though it's for any editors (+ anyone else who plays the game and wants to hang out, but we have channels dedicated to the wiki). The blog posts are just under Blog:Recent posts, so it shows as being by your account by default but it's not on "your page" per se.
