Journey is a gameplay feature in Love Nikki that tells the main story, and is the primary way of gaining items. It is arranged into two volumes, each containing several chapters, where the player has to win Styling Battles in order to progress from one stage to the next.
The stages have two levels of difficulty: Maiden stages cost 4 
to complete, and typically drop more common items, while Princess stages cost 6 , and the items can be evolved into higher scoring ones. The latter have a limit of 3 free tries per day. Side stories, found in later chapters, do not require .
S-rank stages (also called side quests or sub-quests) become available after the player receives an "S" on all main stages in the chapter. In Princess difficulty, only a certain number of S ranks are needed to unlock them, indicated by the counter at the bottom left side of the screen.
Some stages require the player to equip specific items to pass or to receive an S rank; and at the end of each chapter, a Target Suit needs to be obtained via Crafting in order to proceed.
