Item Descriptions[]
When I broke the earth and gained new life. What welcomed me is not the sunshine but coldness.
— Toona Sprout
Who on earth will plant camellias in this cold place? As camellias, of course, I hate coldness.
— Gentle Toona
I bite my nonexistent teeth and resist the coldness. Finally, she came.
— Camellia Socks
What a cute girl. She smiled at me in such surprise. I seem to feel the warmth of her.
— Toon Shoes
She is a talker, she is naïve, she cries a lot, and she made me clothes with teas.
— Camellia Hat
Such a tsundere[1] person must be a girl! Hump, I'm not being tsundere.
— Toona Clothes
Today she named me Gentle Toona. Of course, a camellia doesn't need a name, but it sounds good~
— Camellia Bag
She is the first light of my life, my only light. I wish I could use my life to return the warmth.
— Red Toona
Interpretation[]
Gentle Toona is about a camellia growing in a cold place. It hated the cold but endured it anyway, until a girl came and kept it company, even giving it the name Gentle Toona one day. While its attitude towards her was unfriendly, it appreciates her and holds her in high regards; it wishes it could use its life to return the kindness.
Toona is a genus in the mahogany family, Meliaceae. The species Toona sinensis is prevalent in eastern and southeastern Asia. It is by far the most cold-tolerant species in the Meliaceae family, which is possibly the reason why the girl named the camellia "Gentle Toona."
Footnotes[]
[1] Tsundere (ツンデレ) is a Japanese term for a character development process that describes a person who is initially cold (and sometimes even hostile) before gradually showing a warmer, friendlier side over time.
