The descriptions detail a diamond's point of view being used by humans after being uncovered in its mine. It realizes that all humans want it for is for monetary gain and greed to gain more wealth. The diamond doesn't know why humans value it so much, but it produces more and more of itself to satisfy a never ending desire.
